In 1986, during geological surveys for coal in the village of Ždrelo near Petrovac na Mlavi, a borehole struck a powerful thermal spring at a depth of 180 metres. Water burst to the surface under pressure at a temperature of over 80°C.
The discovery was used to build a thermal resort now operating under the name Terme Ždrelo. The spa has become a unique example in Serbia – a thermal aqua park open all year round, as the water temperature does not vary regardless of the season.
